Gor Mahia are closing in on the Kenyan Premier League title after stopping Chemelil Sugar 1-0 to extend their lead to 17 points.
The defending champions needed a 77th-minute goal from Eliud Lokuwam to ease the pressure on the traveling fans in Nakuru.
"I am happy that the boys have managed to pick up maximum points from this difficult game today," Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr told the media after the game.
"We have a CAF Confederation Cup game against Rayon Sports this weekend and we must remain focused. We tried to rest some of our players ahead of the game on Sunday.
"I am happy with the way my players responded."
Gor Mahia have now accumulated 65 points, while second-placed Bandari FC have 48 points. They will need to collect five more points from the remaining eight games to win their 17th league title.
