SuperSport United went away to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday and won 1-0 in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Soccer City to book a place in the final at the end of the month.
Bradley Grobler, who scored twice in the 2-2 draw in the first leg last Sunday, got the only goal of the return as SuperSport won 3-2 on aggregate and stayed on track to defend the title they won last year.
SuperSport could now face Cape Town City in a repeat of the 2017 final. City are 1-0 up against Mamelodi Sundowns going into Sunday's second leg in Pretoria.
SuperSport dominated the early proceedings but once Grobler scored in the 58th minute they dropped back and had to put up a stout defensive performance to hold on for the win.
It means Chiefs continue their trophyless run, which now extends into a fourth season. The defeat also mounts more pressure on new coach Giovanni Solinas, who has won just one of his eight matches in charge since arriving at the club.
SuperSport were much the stronger side in the first half with more than 70 percent of the possession but for all the movement of the ball, they lacked clear-cut chances.
Three free-kicks from the right whipped in by left-back Aubrey Mothiba provided their best opportunity, with Clayton Daniels heading the first onto the outside of the upright with the Chiefs defence beaten and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune rooted to his line.
The second set-piece also caused panic in the Chiefs defence although Willard Katsande reacted quickest to clear, only for the ball to come back and present Evans Rusike with a shot on goal that Khune saved.
Chiefs relied on Khama Billiat trying to initiate moves but he wandered around too much as he looked to get attacks going, effectively slowing them down.
A quick counter right near half-time, which bypassed Billiat, saw Katsande come close with a shot that curled just wide.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane created the goal for Grobler, who now has five career strikes against Chiefs. He took a touch with his left to breeze past Chiefs' Zimbabwe international defender Teenage Hadebe and then struck it home with his left.
Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made two superb saves five minutes later to deny first Ramahlwe Mphahele and then Katsande right in front of goal.
Chiefs also saw efforts from Dumisani Zuma and Siphelele Ntshangase go wide but in the end their passing game was weak and SuperSport were too strong.
