Germany call up Schalke forward Mark Uth as injured Ilkay Gundogan misses out

Schalke attacker Mark Uth has received his first call-up to the Germany squad but Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will miss the matches against Netherlands and France through injury.

Having joined Schalke on a free transfer from Hoffenheim in the summer, Uth, 27, has not scored in nine matches after netting 17 times for Hoffenheim last season.

But Germany coach Joachim Low told the German FA website: "We have scouted Mark Uth for some time now.

"He's dynamic, has pace and always is dangerous in front of goal. We want to get to know him better."

Uth will join the core of players who made up the squad for the UEFA Nations League match against France in September.

Only Gundogan and Freiburg striker Nils Petersen miss out, and Low said: "In this phase, I trust the players we already invited in September.

"Two important matches that we take very seriously lie ahead of us. The results will show the way in our Nations League group."

Germany drew against France, who went on to beat Netherlands in the three-team group, the winner of which goes through to the Nations League final.
