Seattle Sounders forward Will Bruin tore the ACL in his right knee earlier this week and will miss the remainder of the season, coach Brian Schmetzer told reporters on Thursday.
Bruin was injured during Tuesday's workout and was carted off the field.
"He does have an ACL tear of his right knee, that's the official diagnosis," Schmetzer said after Thursday's training session. "Surgery will come after they let the swelling go down and he will have surgery in early July. He is effectively done for some time."
Bruin, 29, has two goals and one assist in nine appearances (four starts) this season.
Bruin scored 18 goals over his first two seasons with Seattle. He spent his first six MLS seasons with the Houston Dynamo.
Bruin has 70 goals and 28 assists in 247 career MLS appearances (195 starts).
Seattle's next MLS match is June 29 against the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps.
"We'll forge on, we have got to keep going," Schmetzer said. "We will miss him, but this group, this franchise, this team has overcome serious injuries before, and we will have to do it again."
