United States to play Netherlands friendly in March

The United States will play the Netherlands on March 26 at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, U.S. Soccer announced on Friday.

The match is one of two that the U.S. will play during the March international window. It will kick off at 2:45 p.m. ET.

The games mark the first road friendlies of manager Gregg Berhalter's tenure. The Dutch, who currently sit 14th in FIFA's rankings, are the fourth team inside the top 20 to play the U.S. since the start of 2019.

"One of the important parts of continuing to develop this group is the opportunity to play against high-level opponents away from home," Berhalter said.

"The Netherlands is a soccer powerhouse featuring some of the world's best talent. This game will be a good chance to compete as we build toward the important competitions in the summer and fall."

Those competitions include the semifinals of the CONCACAF Nations League, which will see the U.S. face Honduras in June. The U.S. will begin World Cup qualifying in September, with two matches set to take place in each of the September, October, and November international windows.

The game could also mark the first time Ajax full-back Sergino Dest will face the country of his birth since pledging his international future to the U.S. back in October.

The match in March will mark the sixth time the U.S. has faced the Netherlands in its history. The lone American win took place in June of 2015, when the U.S. came back from 3-1 down to prevail 4-3 on Bobby Wood's 90th-minute winner.
