TOP STORY: Pjanic willing to take pay cut for Juve move
Juventus are still looking to strengthen their midfield, with AS Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni and Borussia Dortmund's Axel Witsel among their favoured options. However, Miralem Pjanic, who Barcelona are desperate to get off their books, is also being linked with a return to Juve.
Calciomercato reports that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is willing to take a pay cut to head back to Turin. The 31-year-old played for Juve between 2016 and 2020, before heading to the Camp Nou as part of a swap deal involving Arthur Melo.
Pjanic has an €8m-a-season contract, but is willing to cut that by €3m to change clubs and Calciomercato suggests that could sway it for Juve.
Pjanic has only made the bench in one of Barca's three LaLiga games this season, while he managed just 13 starts in all competitions last term. Bayern Munich's Corentin Tolisso and Lyon's Houssem Aouar are outside options to join the Bianconeri.

21.24 BST: Negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are at a standstill over the transfer of Kylian Mbappe, sources have told ESPN's Julien Laurens and Rodrigo Faez.
Madrid had offered PSG €180m -- €170m plus €10m in variables -- last Thursday for Mbappe's transfer, an improvement on a initial €160m bid from earlier in the week. But sources say PSG have not responded to the offer and won't let him leave for that amount. If there is not a third bid, then Mbappe will remain at PSG this season, especially if they can't sign a replacement before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
21.13 BST: AS reports that there are more LaLiga clubs interested in Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin than just Barcelona, with Real Betis also keen on recruiting the 26-year-old former Gunners captain. Complicating matters for the Seville side, however, is that they'll need to raise money through player exits in order to afford any deal for Bellerin.
William Carvalho is said to be one player Los Verdiblancos could offload, but there's little movement on that front. Fulham have reportedly made an offer to bring the 29-year-old Portugal midfielder to West London, but he's so far unwilling to drop down to England's second division.
20.50 BST: Brighton & Hove Albion have activated the £15m release clause in the contract of 23-year-old Getafe left-back Marc Cucurella, according to the Athletic, and are poised to announce his signing as soon as Tuesday. However, if the Roman side miss out on both targets, their fall-back option is quite intriguing: free agent Franck Ribery, who's been without a club since his contract at Fiorentina expired in July.
19.18 BST: Another disappointment at Stamford Bridge, where it's now "extremely unlikely" that Chelsea will sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul, the Guardian reports. The Blues were said to be interested in taking the 26-year-old Spain international on loan with an option to make the move permanent, as Thomas Tuchel sought experienced depth behind his preferred trio of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

The Blues are said to have thought they'd reached a verbal agreement with the Andalusian side, only for their counterparts in LaLiga to raise the demanded transfer fee by €15m. Chelsea won't improve their offer, and are prepared to begin the season with their existing centre-back options, and potentially return to the negotiating table in January.
17.23 BST: Amid continued speculation that Juventus will recruit one of Miralem Pjanic or Axel Witsel to bolster their midfield, Corriere dello Sport reports that the Bianconeri will need to clear space in their squad to do so, and the most likely candidate to move on is United States midfielder Weston McKennie. The central midfielder must now decide if he is to accept a new challenge before Tuesday's deadline.

14.33 BST: Juventus are still hopeful of signing Mauro Icardi, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are open to a transfer. But it could all hinge on the future of Kylian Mbappe. The report says that if Mbappe is sold to Real Madrid, then Icardi will stay in Paris. But if there is no deal to take Mbappe to Spain, Icardi will be available as PSG look to balance the books after signing Lionel Messi.
Gazzetta cautions that there might not be enough time for PSG to get the Icardi deal over the line in any event, and the transfer could be shelved until next year.
14.00 BST: Jose Mourinho is desperate to add to his midfield at AS Roma, with Calciomercato reporting that Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea) and Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich) are on his shortlist of names -- but he can only sign one player.
Mourinho will also need to move a player on to create space in his squad, with Gonzalo Villar and Amadou Diawara both being made available for transfer. The club have tried to move on Javier Pastore and Steven Nzonzi all summer, but they remain at the club despite not even having squad numbers and they are a heavy drain on the wage bill.
Luiz, 23, is reported to be Roma's No. 1 target and could be available for €30m, but it will be difficult to get the necessary deals done before the transfer window closes. Loftus-Cheek and Tolisso, in the final year of their contracts, could be more achievable.

The Daily Mirror reports that the 24-year-old is desperate for first-team football after failing to force himself into Mikel Arteta's first-team plans over the past year. Burnley, Crystal Palace and Newcastle are also said to be interested, but Everton are in pole position.
The right-back spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
