Craig Dawson becomes fourth Premier League player with two own goals

Wolves defender Craig Dawson scored two own goals against Everton on Wednesday, becoming the fourth player in Premier League history to score multiple goals against his own side in a match.

Liverpool's Jamie Carragher became the first to score multiple own goals in a Premier League game against Manchester United in 1999. Michael Proctor did the same while playing for Charlton in a 3-1 defeat to Sunderland in 2003.

Leicester defender Wout Faes was the last before Dawson to do it in the Premier League in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Dec. 30, 2022.

Dawson twice put the ball into his own net as Everton ran out 4-0 winners at Goodison Park. Everton were already winning 2-0 in the second half when Dwight McNeil's corner was bundled into his own net by Dawson, who was under pressure from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Dawson's second own goal came when he stretched to keep out a deep free kick from McNeil as Calvert-Lewin applied pressure again, but he only succeeded in steering the ball past his own goalkeeper José Sá.

Dawson, 34, joined Wolves from West Ham United in January 2023. He has made 300 career Premier League appearances.

This story has been updated from its original version that incorrectly said Dawson was the first player to score two own goals in an English top flight game.
