Bristol City's play-off hopes ended after draw at Nottingham Forest

Bristol City saw their play-off hopes ended by a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest - but it could have been even worse for Lee Johnson's men.Aitor Karanka's side threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Robins but could not turn 25 efforts on goal into a single goal as Frank Fielding stood tall, with the keeper even saving a Lee Tomlin penalty.Forest should have signed off the season at the City Ground with a comfortable win but saw Tomlin, Joe Lolley, Adlene Guedioura and Andreas Bouchalakis all spurn golden chances in a game they dominated.City never looked like securing the three points they needed to sustain their slim chances of a top-six finish. Tomlin almost made an immediate impact against his former club as he collected the ball just inside the Bristol half and carried it to the edge of the box, where he cut inside onto his right foot to drive in a shot that Fielding saved well at his near post. When Lolley cut in from the right side to carve out a shooting chance of his own, he struck it with plenty of force - which was bad news for Nathan Baker, who made a brave block, which he paid a big price for. After five minutes of treatment, Baker was carried off the pitch to be replaced by Callum O'Dowda in the 13th minute.Tomlin came close again with another shot from the edge of the box. When Tendayi Darikwa whipped in a cross from the right side, it perfectly picked out Lolley in the centre, but a good move and a good ball in were not matched by a wayward finish - the story of the game for Forest.A flick on from Daryl Murphy picked out Bouchalakis, but the Greek midfielder's drive cleared the bar by inches. Marlon Pack then drove a low shot across goal and only narrowly wide for Bristol, before Bouchalakis spurned another golden chance for the home side, as he headed over from a Lolley cross.Lolley twice threatened and the Bristol keeper was drawn into action again when Tomlin had yet another effort on goal. Ben Osborn's cross found Guediouora unmarked eight yards out - only for the midfielder to send the ball spinning wide.Lolley then curled a shot inches wide, following yet more good build-up play. Tomlin had another shot saved at the start of the second half, while Bouchalakis hit another one over.Fielding then hacked down Osborn in the box, earning him a booking, and gave Tomlin the chance to net from the penalty spot. But Fielding perfectly read his kick, diving low to his right to make a simple save from what was a poor effort to convert, in the 65th minute.Michael Mancienne fired into the side-netting and Osborn crossed when he could have shot while Murphy saw a header saved by Fielding as City held out.

Joe Bryan earns Bristol City a point in Ashton Gate thriller

Hull twice fought back from two goals down to inflict a potentially fatal blow on Bristol City's Championship play-off hopes in an amazing 5-5 draw at Ashton Gate.Fraizer Campbell slid home an 87th-minute goal from a cross by substitute Kamil Grosicki to put the visitors ahead 5-4 after they had trailed 3-1 and 4-2.But during six minutes of stoppage time, Joe Bryan cut in from the left to equalise with a low drive from just outside the box. There was still time for Robins goalkeeper Frank Fielding to save from Abel Hernandez as a crazy game reached a costly conclusion for the hosts.Harry Wilson fired Hull into a 16th-minute lead, accepting a return pass from Jackson Irvine and hammering a left-footed shot past Fielding into the top corner. But the hosts were level on 37 minutes when, after a period of pressure, the ball broke to Marlon Pack in a central area 30 yards out and he moved forward to strike a low right-footed drive past Allan McGregor.Three minutes later the home side went ahead through club record-signing Famara Diedhiou, who held off a challenge from Michael Dawson when the ball dropped to him in the box and took his time before hammering home a left-footed shot.Diedhiou notched his second eight minutes after the break, producing a perfectly placed header from Bobby Reid's left-wing chip and directing the ball inside the far post from 10 yards to make it 3-1.But Hull were back in it almost immediately as substitute Fikayo Tomori headed a diagonal ball from Angus McDonald against a post and the ball went in off Fielding for an own goal.On 64 minutes, Reid ran onto a through ball and got between Angus McDonald and the advancing McGregor to slot his 21st goal of the season.Still Hull refused to buckle and the impressive Wilson made it 4-3 with a 30-yard free-kick from the right that beat Fielding at his near post.Ten minutes from time it was 4-4 as Hernandez fired home a low cross from fellow substitute Grosicki. The game finished like a basketball match with both sides looking set to score from every attack. The first half saw the Robins create the better chances. Callum O'Dowda had a close-range volley saved by McGregor in the opening minutes after Jamie Paterson's chip had created the opening.McGregor made a brilliant save from his own defender Stephen Kingsley, who inadvertently nodded on a Reid header. The Robins were unlucky on 33 minutes when Paterson turned neatly just outside the box and saw his deflected shot come back off a post. But on a day they needed a win to keep play-off hopes flickering, Lee Johnson's men were found badly wanting defensively.
