Sun's Briann January, Natisha Hiedeman test positive for COVID-19

Two players for the Connecticut Sun tested positive for COVID-19, the team said Sunday, and are not in the WNBA's bubble in Bradenton, Florida.

Guards Briann January and Natisha Hiedeman are in self-isolation and are complying with all health and safety protocols put in place by the WNBA and CDC, the team said. Both are expected to join the team at IMG Academy for the WNBA's 22-game regular season later this month after each has had two negative tests in succession.

January, a 11-year veteran, is in her first season with the Sun after being traded from the Phoenix Mercury, for whom she played the past two years. January spent her first nine seasons with the Indiana Fever, who drafted her No. 6 out of Arizona State in 2009.

Hiedeman, who played collegiately at Marquette, is in her second season in the league. Sun coach Curt Miller said Hiedeman is quarantining in Connecticut and January in Arizona. He also said that January had tested negative six times before testing positive.

"We'll get both of them here as soon as they get through all the regulations and the protocols," Miller said. "We're in constant communication with both of them every day. We miss them."
