TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- — Makayla Timpson had 19 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, Ta’Niya Latson added 18 points and No. 20 Florida State beat Jacksonville 99-73 on Thursday.
Florida State scored 15 straight points in the first quarter, with scoring from four different players, to go ahead by double figures for good. Jacksonville scored the first four points of the second quarter to get within 12 — the closest the Dolphins would get the rest of the way — but the Seminoles scored the next nine for a 21-point lead.
Florida State led 50-29 at the break after shooting 60% from the field and holding Jacksonville to 29%. The Seminoles entered ranked 13th nationally with a 28.3% field-goal percentage defense.
Sara Bejedi scored 15 points, Carla Viegas added a season-high 14 and O’Mariah Gordon had 12 points and eight assists for Florida State (7-2). Timpson, who entered ranked fifth in the country with 26 blocked shots, reached three blocks in a game for the eighth time this season.
Edyn Battle scored 20-plus points for the fourth straight game for Jacksonville (3-5). She finished with 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting. Battle had scored 29, 21 and 28 points in her three previous games. Saniyah Craig added 15 points against Florida State.
Florida State travels to Connecticut for a game against No. 2 UCLA on Sunday in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase. Jacksonville hosts North Carolina Central on Monday.
