UConn Huskies women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma needs four wins to tie Pat Summitt on all-time wins list

Provided there are no cancellations and No. 3 UConn wins its next three games, coach Geno Auriemma would have the chance to tie former Tennessee coach Pat Summitt with 1,098 victories on Jan. 2 vs. Marquette.

The Huskies' next three games will be Saturday at home vs. Xavier, Tuesday at Villanova and Dec. 30 at Marquette.

Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer, who has been a head coach for seven seasons longer than Auriemma, passed Summitt with her 1,099th victory Tuesday.

The Big East announced its women's basketball schedule for the remainder of the season on Friday. UConn still has three nonconference games scheduled at No. 8 Baylor (Jan. 7), at Tennessee (Jan. 21) and home against No. 5 South Carolina (Feb. 8).

The Big East tournament will be at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, in March.

The continued threat of shutdowns due to COVID-19 remains. Seton Hall on Friday announced it is putting its program on pause due to recent positive tests, with two games -- against Marquette on Dec. 19 and Georgetown on Dec. 22 -- being postponed.

UConn, who beat Seton Hall on Tuesday, began its season on pause because of a positive COVID-19 test within the program in late November.

"Upon discussion and review, medical professionals from Seton Hall and UConn have determined that the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 within the Seton Hall women's basketball program was not in close contact with anyone from UConn," UConn said in a statement Friday.

The Huskies didn't open the season until Dec. 12 against UMass Lowell.
