UConn OK'd to face St. John's after previous game ppd.

The No. 4 UConn women's basketball team will take on St. John's as scheduled after the Huskies' previous game Sunday against DePaul was postponed because they didn't have the Big East-minimum seven available scholarship players.

The news, announced by the program Monday, means at least one of Azzi Fudd, Aaliyah Edwards, Caroline Ducharme and Ayanna Patterson is able to suit up and play meaningful minutes this week. UConn didn't specify which player or players were healthy.

UConn, which lost to South Carolina in the national title game in April, has been devasted by injuries since the preseason, when it lost two players for the season: 2020-21 national player of the year Paige Bueckers (ACL tear) and freshman Ice Brady (dislocated patella).

Sophomore Fudd has missed the last month due to a right knee injury suffered Dec. 4 versus Notre Dame, while sophomore Ducharme -- who'd already been dealing with neck stiffness to start the season -- has been in concussion protocol this past week.

Junior Aaliyah Edwards (ankle) and Ayanna Patterson (undisclosed) were then both hurt in Thursday's game at Xavier. Earlier in the season, Nika Mühl, Dorka Juhász, Aubrey Griffin and Amari DeBerry also missed at least one game due to injury, illness or travel issues.

Coach Geno Auriemma also has missed four games over the last month after feeling unwell and is not expected to coach Wednesday. Associate head coach Chris Dailey is undefeated this season when taking over for Auriemma, as well as 17-0 in such cases all time.
