The sage of Paige and Alberto Del Rio continues with public marriage proposal
The ever-evolving saga of Saraya-Jade Bevis, known as Paige in the WWE, and Jose Alberto Rodriguez, formerly known as Alberto Del Rio, has taken another turn with an apparent marriage proposal made by Bevis in the middle of a wrestling ring.
At the end of a match Rodriguez competed in over the weekend for Puerto Rican wrestling promotion World Wrestling Council, Bevis stepped into the ring, got on a knee and proposed to her boyfriend. He accepted with a kiss and added another layer to what's been an ongoing saga involving the pair.
Rodriguez was suspended for 30 days for violating the WWE's talent wellness policy and subsequently negotiated his release, while Bevis has had her own troubles with the same policy. She was suspended 30 days for her first violation on the same day Rodriguez was pinged, and despite being out of action with neck issues that required treatment, got hit with a 60-day suspension for her second violation on Oct. 10.
Her father and Rodriguez disputed the second penalty as having to do with pain medication she was taking for her neck, but a WWE statement to the New York Post stated "Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug. In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury." Rodriguez also missed a planned appearance for Mexican promotion AAA due to an alleged knife attack that left him with multiple wounds.
The proposal has already received scrutiny, with the attorney for Del Rio's wife Angela Velkei, Raymond Raffol, claiming that divorce proceedings "are far from [done] at this stage" in a statement to Pro Wrestling Sheet Editor-in-Chief Ryan Satin.
