NFL Nation reporters predict 3-13 Bills

Think the Buffalo Bills' first ESPN.com Power Ranking of the season was bad?

After being voted the 29th-best team in the NFL by more than 75 ESPN NFL experts this week, the Bills didn't fare much better in our 2014 game-by-game predictions.

I predicted that the Bills would finish with a 7-9 record, a slight improvement over last season. At one point in November, I peg the Bills at a 7-5 record, which would keep them very much in the playoff race.

Our other ESPN NFL Nation reporters see things differently.

Scouring their game-by-game predictions, reporters for the Bills' 13 opponents have the Bills finishing with a 3-13 record, including a 1-7 start.

Only ESPN Miami Dolphins reporter James Walker, ESPN New York Jets reporter Rich Cimini, and ESPN Kansas City Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher predict that the teams they cover will lose to the Bills this season.

Let's break it all down:

Week 1 at Chicago Bears

My prediction: Bears win (0-1)

Michael C. Wright's prediction: Bears win (0-1)

Wright's comment: "The Bears blasted Buffalo 40-7 the last time these teams met at Soldier Field, but this game should be much closer as the Bills have improved. Chicago's defense will look better than it has in the preseason, but it won't be dominant right off the bat."

Week 2 vs. Miami Dolphins

My prediction: Bills win (1-1)

James Walker's prediction: Bills win (1-1)

Walker's comment: "Buffalo swept Miami last year and has been an awful matchup for the Dolphins in recent seasons. This will be the Bills' home opener and Miami's first road game. That is not a good combination."

Week 3 vs. San Diego Chargers

My prediction: Bills win (2-1)

Eric Williams' prediction: Chargers win (1-2)

Williams' comment: "The Bills are improved, with one of the better defensive front sevens in the NFL. They have a nice 1-2 punch at running back in C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson and a human highlight film in receiver Sammy Watkins. But EJ Manuel remains inconsistent at quarterback."

Week 4 at Houston Texans

My prediction: Texans win (2-2)

Tania Ganguli's prediction: Texans win (1-3)

Ganguli's comment: "Texans coach Bill O'Brien's best friend, Bills head coach Doug Marrone, comes to town. So does DeAndre Hopkins' former teammate, Sammy Watkins. As dynamic as Watkins is, the Bills' quarterback situation will make things difficult on him. And the Texans' pass rush will make things difficult on his quarterback."

Week 5 at Detroit Lions

My prediction: Bills win (3-2)

Michael Rothstein's prediction: Lions win (1-4)

Rothstein's comment: "Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz knows this personnel well and could know how to fluster Matthew Stafford, but the Lions have too much talent on offense and defense for the Bills. The most interesting thing about this game will be the reception Schwartz receives."

Week 6 vs. New England Patriots

My prediction: Patriots win (3-3)

Mike Reiss' prediction: Patriots win (1-5)

Reiss' comment: "Looks like the Bills still have big questions at quarterback. In that case, it's hard to invest in them in this game."

Week 7 vs. Minnesota Vikings

My prediction: Bills win (4-3)

Ben Goessling's prediction: Vikings win (1-6)

Goessling's comment: "This should be one of the more favorable road matchups on the Vikings' schedule, and against the league's 28th-ranked run defense from a year ago, Adrian Peterson will be able to find enough running room to help the Vikings get above .500."

Week 8 at New York Jets

My prediction: Jets win (4-4)

Rich Cimini's prediction: Jets win (1-7)

Cimini's comment: "This is a must-win game, and the Jets will respond to the challenge. With fans and media clamoring for Michael Vick, Geno Smith will play his best game to even the Jets' record at 4-4."

Week 10 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

My prediction: Chiefs win (4-5)

Adam Teicher's prediction: Bills win (2-7)

Teicher's comment: "Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium had been a haunted house for the Chiefs until they busted through with a victory there this past year. But they won't be able to sustain the momentum."

Week 11 at Miami Dolphins

My prediction: Bills win (5-5)

James Walker's prediction: Dolphins win (2-8)

Walker's comment: "Despite being an awful matchup, the Dolphins can't afford to get swept by the Bills for the second year in a row. Miami wins a competitive game over Buffalo at home."

Week 12 vs. New York Jets

My prediction: Bills win (6-5)

Rich Cimini's prediction: Bills win (3-8)

Cimini's comment: "Here's a guarantee: The Jets won't visit the local Dave & Buster's on the eve of the game, as they did last season on the trip to Buffalo. The Jets lost and Ryan was ripped for trying something outside the box. No matter, they'll lose again."

Week 13 vs. Cleveland Browns

My prediction: Bills win (7-5)

Pat McManamon's prediction: Browns win (3-9)

McManamon's comment: "Another must win for the Browns. Pettine used to coach in Buffalo, and the Bills took Sammy Watkins instead of the Browns. Losing this would have serious implications, though the way the Browns played in the preseason it feels like we're giving the Browns too many wins."

Week 14 at Denver Broncos

My prediction: Broncos win (7-6)

Jeff Legwold's prediction: Broncos win (3-10)

Legwold's comment: "From all of the offensive struggles the Bills had in the preseason, things figure to be more than a little frayed by the time they get to this point in the season. The Broncos will be pointing toward postseason seeding."

Week 15 vs. Green Bay Packers

My prediction: Packers win (7-7)

Rob Demovsky's prediction: Packers win (3-11)

Demovsky's prediction: "By this time of the year, the Bills might be far out of the playoff race, while the Packers could be trying to secure a division title. It looks like a mismatch."

Week 16 at Oakland Raiders

My prediction: Raiders win (7-8)

Bill Williamson's prediction: Raiders win (3-12)

Williamson's prediction: "I'm not sure either team will be playing for much, but I think the Raiders give the home crowd a good showing to say goodbye to the season."

Week 17 at New England Patriots

My prediction: Patriots win (7-9)

Mike Reiss' prediction: Patriots win (3-13)

Reiss' comment: "Another season finale against the Bills, just like last year. Should be the same result."
