Here is a closer look at the positions the Cleveland Browns could target at the NFL combine in Indianapolis:

Positions of need: The team's perpetual combine examination of quarterbacks enters phase 7,192, as the Browns get a chance for a brief interview with the top candidates. They also will see workouts from those who choose to work out. The combine is only part of what should be a lengthy scouting report the Browns make on each candidate. The Browns also will have a chance to see and meet with the top defensive candidates, Jonathan Allen and Myles Garrett.

Players the Browns could focus on at the combine:

Mitch Trubisky (quarterback), North Carolina: Does Trubisky have enough talent to overcome one year of starting? He is from the Cleveland area and would love to play for the Browns, but that won't affect the team's decision. In 2016, he threw 30 touchdowns, compared to six interceptions, and completed 68 percent of his passes. The concern: He has 13 college starts, fewer than Mark Sanchez had when he was drafted.

Deshaun Watson (quarterback), Clemson: Watson's glittering playoff performances absolutely helped him, but the questions about him remain. He ran a read-option system at Clemson, and his accuracy has at times been lacking. One thing Watson did in college, though, was win. And when the games meant the most, he played his best. The Browns have to take a look at him.

DeShone Kizer (quarterback), Notre Dame: Kizer is the enigma of this group. At times, he has been considered among the best quarterbacks in the draft; at other times the criticism is heavy. He might have been too quick to leave Notre Dame, as it seems he would have benefited from another year in college.

Jonathan Allen (defensive lineman), Alabama: Aaron Donald became a star in Gregg Williams' defense with the Rams. Allen potentially would be a similar fit in Cleveland. As an interior defender at Alabama, he was a disruptive player, with 22.5 sacks the past two seasons. He also forced two fumbles and recovered three. Pairing him with Danny Shelton potentially would give the Browns a strong force inside.

Myles Garrett (outside linebacker/defensive end), Texas A&M: If the Browns sit down with Garrett only to be assured that the recent video he made about being traded to Dallas was done in fun (it was), it's worth the time. Garrett is a consensus top-four or top-five pick and is considered a pass-rusher on par with Kahlil Mack. If that video dissuades the Browns in any way, they're being foolish. Talking with Garrett will help them feel better about the kind of person he is.
