Mike McCarthy's training camps keep getting shorter

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Training camp keeps getting easier for the Green Bay Packers.

When they wrapped up their 17th and final practice with a one-hour, 38-minute session on Tuesday, it brought their total time on the practice field during camp to 31 hours, 48 minutes.

That was more than three-and-a-half hours less time on the field than last year in training camp, when their total practice time was 35 hours, 30 minutes.

Both years featured 17 practices that were open to the public. However, there were additional practices in both years that were closed to both fans and reporters and did not factor into the total time.

Here are some other facts about this year's camp:

  • Longest practice: Two hours, 30 minutes (Aug. 1)

  • Shortest practice: One hour, 24 minutes (Aug. 17, Aug. 25)

  • Average practice time: One hour, 52 minutes

The first six practices of camp all lasted at least two hours, 22 minutes. Only one practice after that – the Aug. 20 session that went two hours, nine minutes – lasted longer than one hour, 46 minutes.

Last year, the longest practice went two hours, 36 minutes, while the shortest was just 58 minutes.

The 2013 training camp featured 19 practices while the previous two years featured 20 practices each.
