GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers will keep Eliot Wolf in the family.

The team’s top personnel executive under general manager Ted Thompson withdrew his name from consideration for the San Francisco 49ers' GM job and has signed a new deal with the Packers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed. USA Today was the first to report the news of Wolf’s new contract.

Last offseason, the Packers promoted Wolf to director of football operations. He had been the team’s director of player personnel. It was Wolf’s fifth promotion since Thompson became general manager in 2005.

Wolf, the 34-year-old son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf, is not believed to have received a new title with his latest contract.

A month earlier, Packers president Mark Murphy told ESPN that he has a succession plan in mind for Thompson and had an idea how much longer Thompson would work, but declined to share the details of that plan or timeline. Thompson turned 64 this week and is under contract through the 2018 season.

Another member of Thompson’s staff, director of college scouting Brian Gutekunst, remains in the mix for the 49ers' general manager job. Gutekunst was promoted last year to Wolf’s old position, director of player personnel. Gutekunst had previously been the head of college scouting.
