GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Mike McCarthy sent former first-round pick Damarious Randall to the locker room during the second half of Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears, but the Green Bay Packers do not plan to cut the third-year cornerback.

"When we come back Tuesday, Damarious will be ready to roll with the rest of our football team," McCarthy said Friday.

Randall, the 30th pick in the 2015 draft, was benched after Bears receiver Kendall Wright caught an 8-yard touchdown pass late in the first half. Wright caught the fade pass over Randall, who reacted as if he expected coverage help from another member of the secondary.

Second-year pro Josh Hawkins replaced Randall to start the third quarter. Randall was seated on the bench, alone at first and then with injured cornerback Davon House as the rest of the defense was either on the field or standing on the sideline, early in the third quarter. By the end of the game, he was nowhere to be found on the sideline.

McCarthy would not confirm an NFL Network report that Randall argued with a coach.

Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt recently moved from the coaches' box to the sideline, and Whitt has the authority to make personnel changes, defensive coordinator Dom Capers said recently.

"Any time things happen throughout the course of our operation, whether it's in a game, practice and so forth, I can promise you there's dialogue and it's an internal matter that's being handled internally," McCarthy said. "I will make it clear because it was on the field, it was a coach's decision -- my decision -- for Damarious to go into the locker room."

A source told ESPN on Friday that Randall did not leave the stadium during the game. He remained at Lambeau Field until well after the game had ended, the source said.

McCarthy would not reveal what discipline, if any, the team would take.

Randall was not seen in the locker room during postgame media availability and there was no access to players Friday. Following the Thursday game, McCarthy gave the team Saturday through Monday off.

"I think like anything in life and particularly professional sports and this particular situation, we can all grow," McCarthy said. "And he has some growing to do."
