In going through various mock-draft scenarios in recent weeks, one of the things that kept coming to the forefront for the New England Patriots was the possibility of the board falling in a way that made a receiver the potential most enticing choice.

Part of that is tied to this being such a deep receiver class. The other part of it is tied to other positions of note -- such as defensive tackle and offensive line -- possibly being picked clean by the time the Patriots make their first pick.

In the spirit of accountability, here's our first and final individual mock draft of the year, which attempts to match team needs and system with some intelligence picked up along the way:

1. Buccaneers -- QB Jameis Winston (Florida State) -- If it's not him, the Buccaneers have played it masterfully. This one would concern me if making the pick.

2. Titans -- QB Marcus Mariota (Oregon) -- Whether it's the Titans or another team, this seems like this spot. From a Patriots perspective, I'll be watching if the Jets consider a move up here.

3. Jaguars -- WR Amari Cooper (Alabama) -- Surrounding Blake Bortles with more weapons.

4. Raiders -- DT Leonard Williams (Southern Cal) -- Solid pick for a team that needs a lot of them.

5. Washington -- OLB Dante Fowler (Florida) -- Can never have enough pass-rushers.

6. Jets -- OLB Vic Beasley (Clemson) -- Would help bring the heat against Tom Brady and Co.

7. Bears -- DT Danny Shelton (Washington) -- Switching defensive schemes, he could be an anchor inside.

8. Falcons -- DE/OLB Bud Dupree (Kentucky) -- Edge rusher for defensive-minded first-year coach Dan Quinn.

9. Giants -- G Brandon Scherff (Iowa) -- Plug-and-play no-frills pick.

10. Rams -- C Cameron Erving (Florida State) -- Steps right in.

11. Vikings -- CB Trae Waynes (Michigan State) -- Cover men needed to keep up with the Packers.

12. Browns -- WR Kevin White (West Virginia) -- Offense needs multiple sparks.

13. Saints -- OLB Randy Gregory (Nebraska) -- Pass-rushers go early, even those with off-field questions.

14. Dolphins -- RB Todd Gurley (Georgia) -- Potential workhorse to help ease the burden on Ryan Tannehill.

15. 49ers -- DE Arik Armstead (Oregon) -- Could fit nicely in Eric Mangini's defensive scheme.

16. Texans -- WR DeVante Parker (Louisville) -- Looked like a Patriots-type receiver, which would make him a Texans-type too under Bill O'Brien.

17. Chargers -- OT Andrus Peat (Stanford) -- Have to find a way to keep Philip Rivers protected, and maybe this pushes D.J. Fluker inside.

18. Chiefs -- OT Ereck Flowers (Miami) -- Help needed at receiver too, but we started up front where there's also holes to be filled.

19. Browns -- RB Melvin Gordon (Browns) -- Between White (No. 12) and Gordon, you've given Josh McCown a better chance to succeed.

20. Eagles -- CB Kevin Johnson (Wake Forest) -- Thought about a receiver, but a solid, press-man corner to pair with Byron Maxwell was more enticing.

21. Bengals -- DL Malcom Brown (Texas) -- Too talented to pass up and they play their linemen in waves.

22. Steelers -- CB Byron Jones (UConn) -- They had nine cornerbacks in for pre-draft visits.

23. Lions -- DT Eddie Goldman (Florida State) -- Big, powerful run-stuffer for a defense that is predicated on strong line play.

24. Cardinals -- CB Marcus Peters (Washington) -- Potential replacement for Antonio Cromartie.

25. Panthers -- OT D.J. Humphries (Florida) -- Possible left tackle of the future.

26. Ravens -- WR Nelson Agholor (Southern Cal) -- Eyes on receivers and corners, and this is one I think the Patriots like, too.

27. Cowboys -- OLB Shane Ray (Missouri) -- They take the risk for the potential dynamic pass-rushing presence.

28. Broncos -- OT Jake Fisher (Oregon) -- Fits in zone-blocking scheme.

29. Colts -- S Landon Collins (Alabama) -- Top safety fits area of need.

30. Packers -- CB Eric Rowe (Utah) -- Bigger defensive back seems to fit their prototype.

31. Saints -- WR Breshad Perriman (Central Florida) -- Speedy threat.

32. Patriots -- WR Phillip Dorsett (Miami) -- Dynamic playmaker. The way the board falls, with such a deep receiver class, he could fit best here. Jaelen Strong and Devin Smith were other receivers available, while offensive lineman T.J. Clemmings and defensive end Preston Smith were considered here.
