Capcom Pro Tour 2017 details announced

Heading into the Capcom Cup, few would have picked Du "NuckleDu" Dang to win, but as the titans of Street Fighter fell early, NuckleDu was able to ride his hot hand to victory. Robert Paul/Capcom

Capcom announced Monday it would be pouring $600,000 into Capcom Pro Tour for the 2017 circuit ($100,000 more than last year). The tournament structure has also been reformatted this year to make qualification more straightforward, with the Top 30 on the global leaderboards qualifying for the Capcom Cup.

The tour will also host a point system based on results from various events, with more points allocated to larger events. The top 256 players at the Evolution Championship Series, for example, will earn points.

Finally, the remaining two spots will be reserved for the winner of the Last Chance Qualifier before the Capcom Cup and to Team Liquid's Du "NuckleDu" Dang, who won the Capcom Cup title in 2016.

Capcom also plans to forgo the standard bracket set-up for group stages, possibly making it a round-robin. This is to offset the long wait times between matches that occurred during last year's Capcom Cup.

Regional Ranking Events will take place between April and September. Regional events are now region-locked, meaning only residents of that region will be allowed to compete. The winner of each Regional Final will automatically qualify for the Capcom Cup and will be awarded 400 points. In the instance a Regional Finals winner isn't in the Top 30 Global Leaderboards after the 400-point boost, the bottom player from the Global Leaderboard will be removed.

The full list of events can be found in Capcom's announcement.
