The League of Legends European Championship summer playoff final will not be taking place in Malmö, Sweden, as originally planned due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In an official statement from Riot Games on Tuesday on the League of Legends website, the LEC revealed that the Sweden plans were canceled and other options for the summer final are being looked at. The spring split final was played entirely online due to concerns over coronavirus.

Also announced in the statement was that the broadcast production will return to the Berlin studio, with a skeleton crew, for the start of the summer split. The hope is to gradually increase the number of people in the studio when safe to do so, including players, press and, eventually, a live audience.
"We will start with a minimal approach to keep the risk low and allow for a slow ramp-up in a controlled environment," the league said in a statement.
Though Germany was one of the most affected countries worldwide from coronavirus, the country has begun gradually lifting restrictions following a lockdown that began in mid-March. Shops, restaurants, museums and places of worship have been able to operate in the country provided they follow proper social distancing guidelines.
The LEC summer split is still scheduled to return on June 12. G2 Esports won the spring split playoffs with a 3-0 sweep of Fnatic in the final.
