Packers' Sam Shields suffers concussion vs. Cowboys

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers lost No. 1 cornerback Sam Shields in the first half of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys after his head slammed onto the turf near the visitors' bench.

Shields was immediately taken to the locker room to be evaluated and later was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.

Shields started the game matched against Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant. He was injured while making a tackle after a 2-yard catch by Lucky Whitehead in the second quarter.

This past week, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Shields was "playing probably the best football of his career."

Second-round pick Quinten Rollins replaced Shields, giving the Packers a pair of rookies as their outside cover men. First-round pick Damarious Randall started at the other cornerback spot, with Casey Hayward inside in the nickel.
