ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott reiterated after Sunday's 47-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints that Tyrod Taylor will remain his starting quarterback.
Taylor completed nine of 18 passes for 56 yards before being replaced by rookie fifth-round pick Nathan Peterman with less than five minutes remaining in the game. The Bills trailed the Saints 40-3 when Taylor was pulled, and cheers broke out at New Era Field when the switch was made.
Asked about the crowd's reaction after the game, Taylor said, "I don't listen to the crowd."
Peterman led the Bills on a six-play, 75-yard drive ending in a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end Nick O'Leary before the Saints ran out the clock to end the game.
"I thought he did some good things," McDermott said of Peterman. "Moved the offense there. Obviously, got us into the end zone, so that was a positive."
Taylor's 56 passing yards and 33.6 passer rating were both the lowest in his 38-game career as Buffalo's starter. His career-worst outing came despite the Bills debut of wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, acquired in a trade last month, and the return of tight end Charles Clay from a month-long absence because of a knee injury.
Benjamin was targeted three times by Taylor on the opening drive of the game, making one catch for 9 yards. He was not targeted again until Peterman entered the game. He caught two passes from Peterman for 33 yards.
Taylor entered Sunday's game having completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 95.8 passer rating.
McDermott in August squashed speculation that Peterman could be the starter by standing by Taylor after he completed 48 percent of his passes for 100 yards, two interceptions and a 27.9 passer rating in three preseason games.
