Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn, who has led the team in tackles over the last two seasons, was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the team announced Wednesday.
As a result, Chinn will miss at least the next four weeks.
Chinn left Sunday's game against Arizona after just six snaps and did not return. He has 20 tackles and a sack this season.
The 24-year-old Chinn led all rookies in tackles in 2000 and is one of just three players in team history to have at least 100 tackles in his first two seasons. He has started 35 of 37 games since joining the Panthers as a second-round draft pick 2020, missing two games because of knee and ankle injuries.
The Panthers filled the roster spot by elevating safety Juston Burris from the practice squad.
Coach Matt Rhule is confident in Burris, who started 20 games for the Panthers the past two seasons, but Rhule knows that he isn't as versatile as Chinn, who has lined up at safety, linebacker and in the slot.
"Obviously, losing someone like Jeremy is difficult,'' Rhule said. "He's a great player.''
