Liverpool's Connor Randall: Versatility should help me get opportunities

BIRKENHEAD -- Liverpool full-back Connor Randall hopes his ability to play on either side of the defence will lead to further first-team opportunities.

Randall, 20, who usually operates at right-back, has been featuring on the left side for Michael Beale's under-23 side at times this season.

And he believes playing at left-back gives him the opportunity to show that he can be a versatile option for Jurgen Klopp.

"I've played there the last couple of games," Randall told reporters after appearing for Liverpool's U23s in their 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg at Prenton Park on Wednesday.

"It's the same position really. Just wherever the manager tells you, you've got to go out there and do job and show the manager you can play different positions.

"I think numbers, goals and assists, are important as a modern-day full-back. That's something I need to improve on in my game.

"I've got to keep learning and working on the things I need to improve on."

Players including Danny Ings, Mamadou Sakho and Kevin Stewart have all featured for the U23s at some point this season and Randall, who has made seven first-team appearances, feels working with them is helping him obtain match sharpness in the event he is called upon by Klopp.

"[Klopp] hasn't said much other than to just keep patient," Randall added. "You're training with [the first team] every day so it's great you're learning from the players and learning each day and improving.

"It's important that I've just got to make sure I'm fit and ready if the chance does come.

"There's a lot of lads I've played with, especially the ones at Melwood, that play when they can. I think that's vital because you've got to get your minutes in and there's nothing like match fitness.

"When everyone does play, we've got a great team. There's a lot of players for the U23s now and we've got a really good side."
