The No. 2-ranked Stanford women's basketball team has added a game at UNLV on Saturday, although the tipoff time has not yet been announced.
The Cardinal also announced that their next three games will not be played at Stanford's Maples Pavilion as originally scheduled, and the program is considering alternate sites and dates. Those games are against Pac-12 foes Washington State and Washington this weekend and against UC Davis on Dec. 11.
Stanford has been trying to adjust its schedule since last Saturday's announcement of a temporary ban, due to COVID-19 concerns, in Santa Clara County, California, of athletic activities that involve physical contact or that take place indoors. This runs through at least 5 a.m. PT on Dec. 21.
Stanford has three other scheduled games during the ban period, all against Pac-12 foes on the road: at Cal (Dec. 13), at USC (Dec. 19) and at UCLA (Dec. 21). No announcements have been made on whether those games will be changed.
The Cardinal started their season Nov. 25 with a 108-40 victory over Cal Poly. Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer is three victories away from tying late Tennessee coach Pat Summitt for most in Division I women's basketball at 1,098.
Another schedule change for a top-25 women's team was announced Wednesday, as No. 14 Maryland's home game against Coppin State on Saturday was canceled. Coppin State's women's program has paused its season because of a positive test for COVID-19.
The game was to have been a homecoming for Coppin State's first-year coach, Laura Harper, a former Maryland standout who was the Women's Final Four's most outstanding player when the Terrapins won the 2006 national championship.
