BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- UConn women's basketball forward Dorka Juhasz sustained a fracture and dislocation of her left wrist early in the second quarter of Monday night's 91-87 double-overtime win against NC State in the Bridgeport Regional final.
Juhasz grabbed an offensive rebound and attempted a putback when she fell on her wrist at 6:19 of the quarter.
UConn's athletic trainer was immediately called over; Juhasz, in visible pain, ultimately left the floor with a towel over her wrist. Huskies players were visibly shaken by the injury.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the game he was told part of Juhasz's wrist was "cleanly fractured and dislocated."
"We'll miss her," Auriemma said, confirming the injury will keep Juhasz out of the reminder of the season.
Juhasz, one of UConn's three bigs who see regular playing time, returned to the bench with her wrist bandaged up and in a sling. She was able to celebrate the Huskies' Final Four berth with her teammates after the final buzzer.
"Coach got us together and basically just told us the biggest thing we could do for her was win the game and win it for her," said senior guard Christyn Williams. "I guess that was just our mentality for the rest of the game."
Entering Monday, Juhasz was averaging 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game for the Huskies.
The 6-foot-5 Juhasz played her first three years of college basketball at Ohio State before transferring to Storrs in the offseason. Despite a quiet start to the tournament, she made an early impact in Monday's game with her defense and rebounding.
"We just embraced her and told her that we have her back no matter what," Williams said. "We were just really excited that we could get this win for her."
